Τα κοινά πρόσθετα των τροφίμων ενδέχεται να ευνοούν την εκδήλωση καρκίνου του εντέρου, σύμφωνα με έρευνα σε πειραματόζωα.

Οι γαλακτωματοποιητές, κοινές πρόσθετες ουσίες που περιέχονται σε πολλά επεξεργασμένα και συσκευασμένα τρόφιμα, μπορεί να ανοίξουν το δρόμο στον καρκίνο, δείχνει μια νέα αμερικανική επιστημονική έρευνα σε πειραματόζωα.

Οι γαλακτωματοποιητές, οι οποίοι διευκολύνουν την ανάμιξη των συστατικών των τροφίμων και τους δίνουν μεγαλύτερο διάρκεια ζωής στο ράφι των καταστημάτων, μπορεί να μεταβάλλουν τη σύνθεση των βακτηρίων του εντέρου, με τρόπο που προκαλεί φλεγμονή και τελικά καρκίνο του παχέος εντέρου.

Οι ερευνητές, με επικεφαλής την επίκουρη καθηγήτρια δρα Έμιλι Βιενουά του Ινστιτούτου Βιοϊατρικών Επιστημών του Πολιτειακού Πανεπιστημίου της Τζόρτζια, που έκαναν τη σχετική δημοσίευση στο περιοδικό για θέματα καρκίνου Cancer Research, τάϊσαν ποντίκια με δύο κοινούς γαλακτωματοποιητές (καρβοξυμεθυλοκελλουλόζη και πολυσορβικό-80), σε δόσεις ανάλογες με τις ποσότητες που οι ουσίες αυτές περιέχονται στα επεξεργασμένα τρόφιμα.

Διαπιστώθηκε ότι οι γαλακτωματοματοποιητές τροποποίησαν γρήγορα τη σύνθεση των εντερικών μικροοργανισμών των πειραματόζωων, έτσι ώστε να είναι πιθανότερη η ανάπτυξη φλεγμονής στο έντερο. Αυτό, με τη σειρά του, δημιούργησε ένα περιβάλλον πιο ευνοϊκό για την εκδήλωση καρκίνου στα επιθηλιακά κύτταρα του εντέρου των ζώων.

Ο καρκίνος του παχέος εντέρου είναι η τέταρτη συχνότερη αιτία θανάτου από καρκίνο παγκοσμίως, ευθυνόμενος για τουλάχιστον 700.000 θανάτους ετησίως.

Έχει πλέον γίνει αντιληπτό από τους επιστήμονες ότι οι μικροβιακές κοινότητες του εντέρου παίζουν ρόλο στην εμφάνιση της νόσου, όπως και σε άλλες παθήσεις του γαστρεντερικού συστήματος.

Τα περιστατικά καρκίνου του εντέρου εμφανίζουν συνεχή αύξηση μετά τα μέσα του 20ού αιώνα. Εκτός από τις γενετικές αιτίες, οι επιστήμονες αποδίδουν το πρόβλημα σε διατροφικούς και άλλους περιβαλλοντικούς παράγοντες.

Οι γαλακτωματοποιητές - μόρια που μοιάζουν με εκείνα των απορρυπαντικών- μπορεί να έχουν συμβάλει, σύμφωνα με τους Αμερικανούς ερευνητές.
