Το Eλληνικό χωριουδάκι δίπλα στη λίμνη. Εικόνες που μοιάζουν σαν να ξεπετάχτηκαν από τα παραμύθια
Μόλις 13 χλµ. ανατολικά της Καστοριάς, στην ανατολική ακτή της λίμνης Ορεστιάδας, βρίσκεται ένα πολύ όμορφο χωριουδάκι, το Μαυροχώρι ή Μαύροβο.
Το χωριό υπάρχει ήδη από το 1380. Κάποτε ήταν το επίνειο της Καστοριάς, αποτελούσε δηλαδή, εμπορευματικό σταθμό για όσους μετακινούνταν από τους οικισμούς της ευρύτερης περιοχής προς την Καστοριά.
Η μετακίνηση ανθρώπων και αγαθών γινόταν μέσα από τη λίμνη με τα παραδοσιακά «μοτόρια», τα οποία από τα μέσα περίπου του 2ου αιώνα εκτελούσαν τη λιμναία διαδρομή από την αποβάθρα του Μαυροχωρίου προς την πόλη της Καστοριάς και αντίστροφα.
Τα πλοιάρια αυτά είχαν κατασκευαστεί από τους «μοτορτζήδες» του χωριού.Η επικοινωνία με την Καστοριά, εκτός από τα «μοτόρια» γινόταν και με τις βάρκες, τα περίφημα Καστοριανά «καράβια».
Την περίοδο της δικτατορίας καταργήθηκαν τα όμορφα αυτά πλοιάρια και τη θέση τους πήραν οι αστικές γραμμές.
Στο Μαυροχώρι από τον 9ο αιώνα ξεκίνησε εμποροπανήγυρη με την ονομασία «Πανηγύρι του Δόβερου». Η εμποροπανήγυρη που λάμβανε χώρα στις 25 Σεπτεμβρίου, τελούνταν παλαιότερα είτε στην πόλη της Καστοριάς, είτε στη Διοκλητιανούπολη, είτε ανατολικότερα στην Κλεισούρα.
Το 18ο αιώνα, η εμποροπανήγυρη του Μαυρόβου ήταν ένα από τα σημαντικότερα γεγονότα που συνέβαινε στην προεπαναστατική Ελλάδα.
Εκτός από τη φημισμένη εµποροπανήγυρη, αξίζει να επισκεφθείτε το Μαυροχώρι για την υπέροχη θέα στη λίµνη, το φαγητό στο Νησί των Κορµοράνων αλλά και για το Μουσείο Κέρινων Οµοιωµάτων Λαογραφίας και Προϊστορίας.
Ένα μουσείο που είναι μοναδικό στο είδος του γιατί παρουσιάζει λαογραφικά θέματα με ζωντάνια και κίνηση φτιαγμένα από τον δάσκαλο και εξαιρετικό καλλιτέχνη Δημήτρη Παναγιωτίδη.
Παρουσιάζει σκηνές καθημερινού βίου μέσα στο σπίτι και έξω από αυτό, στο χωριό και στον κάμπο δοσμένες σε θεματικές ενότητες, ήθη και έθιμα.
